We are all aware of the benefits of the most popular Green Teas. Not many people are aware of Matcha Green Tea  and the benefits of drinking it on a regular basis. Traditionally drunk in Japanese tea ceremonies, Matcha tea is a finely powdered tea which starts out as leaves. This powdered tea can also be added to sweets, cookies and smoothies.

Matcha tea is only brewed in Japan because it requires specific growing conditions to produce the various antioxidants and beneficial qualities that this particular tea has. Many years ago the Buddhist Monks would drink the tea to enable them to get to a higher state of meditation.

Producing Matcha tea starts a couple of weeks before the harvesting. All the bushes are covered to emulate shade. This covering of the bushes is carried out to slow down the growth of the plants therefore decreasing the impact of photosynthesis. This increases the amino acids and the leaves obtain a higher level of chlorophyll. This all adds to the potency and the sweet taste of the tea.

Harvesting the Matcha tea leaves is carried out by removing all the best buds, steaming them and then leaving them to dry. The stems are removed and the leaves are ground into a very fine powder.

Matcha green tea benefits.

There are a variety of benefits that drinking this particular green tea will bring to you. Matcha green tea contains higher amounts of amino acids, polyphenois, vitamins, as well as other antioxidants.

Matcha tea is abundant in L-Theanine, a rare amino acid that can cause a state of relaxation and well-being. Stress is induced by beta waves, L-Theanine creates alpha waves, which will help you reach a relaxed state of mind. L-Theanine is common in all teas, Matcha green tea can contain up to five times more of this amino acid. It is believed that L-Theanine may contribute to a better memory and an increased learning ability.

Another benefit of Matcha Green Tea is the high antioxidant count. This is way higher than any other green tea, fruit or vegetable. Studies have shown that these antioxidants can reduce the risk of serious health problems.

I have already mentioned that the plants are put under shade for a few weeks before harvesting. This enables the plant to send massive amounts of nutrients and chlorophyll to the leaves.

Matcha Green Tea for Weight Loss.

The high levels of Chlorophyll found in Matcha green tea increase some of the enzymes that are required to break down fatty acids, turning them into fuel for your body this in turn reduces the amount of body fat.

There is some research that suggests chlorophyll may act as an appetite suppressant, which stimulates weight loss by reducing your food intake. The Chlorophyll found in Matcha tea is also attributed to increasing your metabolic rate which as we all know, burns calories.
